Registration for the 2020 School is on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The La Serena School of Data Science is targeted for senior undergraduate students (3rd through 6th year) and beginning (1st and 2nd year) graduate students in programs related to astronomy and "big data",  including (but not limited to) astronomy, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, and mathematics.

The usual registration process consists of submitting an application through a web form (currently closed) in this website. In addition, the applicant uploads a Letter of Intention and the name and email address of a recommender. We contact the recommender directly after. The applicant can request to be considered for a Full o Partial scholarships in the same application web form.

 

Scholarship Requirements

Thanks to funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation as well as the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM, UChile), NIC-Chile, Centro de Informatica Medica y Telemedicina (CIMT), and REUNA scholarships will be available for most of the students selected from the U.S. and Chile.  In addition, thanks to funding from CEDIA, students from Ecuadorian universities members of CEDIA are eligible for full scholarships.  To qualify for a scholarship, students must be enrolled full time in an accredited university in either the U.S. or Chile, and provide a copy of their grades together with a letter of recommendation from a professor in their program of study.  No explicit scholarship application is required, as all U.S. or Chilean applicants will automatically be considered as scholarship candidates.
