LSSDS 2021 Registration Information

The La Serena School of Data Science is targeted for senior undergraduate students (3rd through 6th year) and beginning (1st and 2nd year) graduate students in programs related to astronomy and "big data",  including (but not limited to) astronomy, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, and mathematics. Exceptionally, the 2021 school will accept 3rd year graduate students due to the cancelation of the 2020 school because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 school will be hosted fully online. The school will comprise asynchronoues and synchronous sessions during the 10-day program. Initially, we expect the synchronous sessions to be ~3 hours per day.

The usual registration process consists of submitting an application through the web form linked below. In addition and on the same form, the applicant uploads a Letter of Intention and the name and email address of a recommender. We contact the recommender directly after. The applicant can request to be considered for a Full o Partial scholarships in the same application web form. Full scholarships will cover all school expenses, which are still existent for the online realization of the school.

Applications for the 2021 LSSDS were received until April 18th, and the registration process closed at the moment.
 

Scholarship Requirements

Thanks to funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation as well as the Gemini/ANID funding, the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM, UChile), NIC-Chile, Centro de Informatica Medica y Telemedicina (CIMT), and REUNA scholarships will be available for most of the students selected from the U.S. and Chile.  In addition, thanks to funding from CEDIA, students from Ecuadorian universities members of CEDIA are eligible for full scholarships.  Moreover, the CMM has offered funding for students in Latin American institutions. To qualify for a scholarship, students must be enrolled full time in an accredited university in either the U.S., Chile, Ecuador (CEDIA) or Latin America and provide a copy of their grades together with a letter of recommendation from a professor in their program of study.  No explicit scholarship application is required, as all U.S., Chilean Ecuadorian and Latin American applicants will automatically be considered as scholarship candidates.
